Mary Kay's words

Quote from Mary Kay "We all have the same 24 hours each day, but how we use those 24 hours makes the difference between success and failure. The use of our time is more important than the quantity of time spent. The successful person is really just an efficient person with determination who works less but gets more done through effective time management"

I choose to post this quote from Mary Kay today because in the past week(s) I really felt like I have failed in my time management.  I know I am being hard on myself but that's always been something that I want to fix so it have been bothering me but I was reminded yesterday during our weekly meeting that "as long as I have done the best to my ability, I can do it" so my goal in the following 2 weeks is to stay on task and really manage my time.

Time Management

Time management is so hard for me.  I always feel I can complete at least 6 tasks a day and at the end of the day, I usually complete about 3 of them.  At first that really bothers me because I like to finish what I plan to do, but I can't seem to ever finish that long list of "to do" and sometimes that to do list get so big that I have to just close my eyes and start the list again.  Well that's just all part of falling and getting up I suppose.  I talked to my director and try to seek answer rather my lack of ability to complete my 6 tasks a day, am I a failure?  She said "no, that's not failing, that just mean you will have to complete your unfinished tasks tomorrow."  Thank god I have someone to go to when I need questions like this answered, but I really think i am just never going to be a successful Mary Kay consultant because I can't even juggle simple 6 tasks a day.  That was my issue before, I no longer have this issue anymore because I have learned what is important and what can wait.

Time management, it's a life long skill that always have room for improvement.

Put down my Mary Kay hat for one day

As Mary Kay herself would say, as a Mary Kay consultant we have many different hats.  I don't have a family yet, so I don't need to put on the mother hat, but before becoming a Beauty Consultant I was an Engineer and still am.  Today I got to wear my Engineer hat, I attended a full day seminar about Wood Construction.  Sometimes it is just nice to get to walk away from our daily job and do something else.  I've learned in order for myself not to burnt out, I need to occasionally walk away from being a Beauty Consultant.

I'm BACK!!!

Well, I have been back for a couple of days now and yes, I slacked off and didn't write my blog.  BUT I didn't slag of with work.  In fact, I jumped right back into work on Monday and a full day on Tuesday.  So far I have been having a fabalous selling week and I am so proud of myself.  On top of that every one of my facials and skin care class, the guest have LOVED me, they love the knowledge that I give and how much fun they have at my presentation.  The feeling of being liked is so GOOD.

This good feelings brings me to think about Mary Kay's Golden Rule "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you"  This is so important in life because NOBODY likes to be mistreated and this rule goes beyond the Mary Kay business or any of the customer service business.  This rule should be applied everyday in every situation in our lives.  Here's an example, earlier tonight I was watching the Apr 6 episode of Biggest Loser and in the show there's a girl on the red team Melissa.  She was kicked out earlier in the show but she got a 2nd chance to come back to the house.  The first time she was in the house all the other players have already labeled her as the "game player" someone who will do anything to win the game.  And for those who don't want any reality shows, they always do interviews in between to get their thoughts and feelings, and from those interviews you can see she is not a very honest person, everything is about her and only her, she will do anything to play with people's mind and win the game.  She thinks she can have it all.  At the Apr 6 episode, once again she was in the bottom two and will be up for vote by the other players to get eliminated.  It was between her and another girl name Andrea, before the vote both Melissa and Andrea get to plead to the other players to get votes to allow them to stay on the game.  Andrea had poured her heart out telling the other players she needs to remain on the game to keep loosing weight, whereas Melissa (being a lawyer) tried to use the mulipulation technique to win votes.  She said that because she will always loose very little weight if they choose to keep her in the house it's like a free ticket ride to the final 4 contestant.  At the announcement of the vote each player get to say why they voted the way they did, and every single person had voted Melissa because nobody liked her, even though she may be right, but nobody wants to get played, everyone like to be honest.  Well I tell this story because it shows the importance of the "Golden Rule" because Melissa had always mistreated the other players and would lied to get what she wants, others can see it, and they don't like it so she played the game and the game played her back and bite her in the behind.  It's so important to treat others the way you want to be treated.  If you are impatient with someone, in return you will not gain the respect and care from that person.

Didn't forget my blog while I'm in Vegas

My trip have been amazing so far, the weather is nice here, not too hot, not too cold, just right.  The last time I was in Vegas was about 5 yrs ago, last time I partied alot and was up late.  This time I get to see this place in a very relaxed way.  I have enjoyed 3 shows so far and loved them all, but the show that I liked the most was the Blue Man Group.  It was a very different experience that I can't describe except I would recommend anyone who come to Vegas should go see them.  It's not a traditional show where the audience watch and the performer performs, it's a show that you get to interact with the performer without words or instructions.  Well this is all I am going to say about it because the next time you are in Vegas, you should just check it out.

Other than that I leisurely visited different hotels, played some table games here and there, there was one night that I have won over $200, it was such a nice feeling, but being in Vegas, I never thought of bringing big money home, I just came to play and expect to break even with my gambling by the end of the trip.  So far that's been true.  I wonder if I change my mind and say I am going to win today, will I win???

It's known that Vegas is sunny and hot all the time, and it doesn't rain very much, not like Vancouver.  So I brought along the complete sun care products in the Mary Kay line.  WOW, it's amazing, I have always been iffy about sun tanning lotion, but I tried the MK sun tanning lotion, it is so smooth and hydrating and I can see a tan happening even though I am not in the sun baking myself.  Than the sunscreen is also very nice, what's so great about it is that it don't have the heavy feeling of most 30SPF sunscreen.

Well I think it's time for me to hit the strip and continue with the rest of my trip.

Will post again soon.

I'm off to a vacation

One thing I love most about my Mary Kay business is that I can leave whenever I want to and I do not need to ask for days off from my boss(es).  Today I am taking off to Vegas with my boyfriends.  He's heading there for a conference and I'm his volunteer assistance, and if I was working for someone else I would never be able to go 'cause we didn't confirm on this trip until last Thur.  Can you imagine going to my boss and go "Hi boss, do you think I can take a week off?" He/She will probably say "sure, when?" and I would reply "starting tomorrow?" and than watch the look on his/her face, it won't be a happy look unless I want to be fired.  Well I can't be fired with my own MK business :)

Other than this fun upcoming trip, it was also my birthday this pass weekend.  I had an awesome time 'cause on sat I went to the MK 10-10-10 event where I was recognize for ordering over $1000 wholesale in the past quarter, also a star consultant AND get to refresh about the spring & summer trend.  Afterward my parent cooked me a wonderful roast beef dinner.  Sunday, I went to see the Black Eyed Peas concert which was just amazing and now I'm off to Vegas!!!!!!

Well I will do my best to keep up with my blog while I am there, I will always have MK on my mind and we'll see who I meet and what I might find while I am down there :)

Oops I missed a day

If you didn't notice, I didn't get to write my blog last night, not because I didn't want to but I am just beyond tired and I couldn't get myself to write it, so I made a decision that my health is more important and I should get some sleep.  Sorry if you guys missed me :-P

The way I would describe my last 2 days was "good" everything worked out very well.  Initially I had to go all over the map on Thur, which part of me was happy that I have a full schedule but the other part of me was feeling tired knowing I have to spent about 4 hours on the road driving.  At the end my appointment at Maple Ridge had to cancel because she got a cold so we reschedule to 2 weeks after.  I also had a class in the evening in Richmond, it was the first time I used the brand new flip chart to do my class, embarrass to say, I need to get familiar with it to do a smooth class for sure.  Although I didn't make any sales on Thur but I know I have planted some good seeds, and like how I was taught by my directors, it's not always about the sales, but it's about planting good seeds.

Friday I decide to leave it for a "catch up on errands day" and that's exactly what I did.  I went to see a speech therapist this morning to try to help me with my speech, than I got my eye brow shaped and dropped off some door prize for a wedding show that's coming up, finally I met up for lunch with my girlfriend.  I even had time to do my laundry and went to do power yoga.  It was definitely something I needed because I was such go go go the last couple of weeks.  BUT what I am proud of myself today is that, even though I did not book any selling appointment I was still showing my passion about Mary Kay.  I contacted 3 of my out of town friends to send them recruiting material and complete a survey for me, which was part of my RJU homework.  I also talked about my business and what Mary Kay can do for my friend that I was having lunch with.  She felt engaged with the idea and will be having an interview with me when I get back.

So by now you are probably asking "where am I going?" hehehe, I am going to be in Vegas with my boyfriend.  YES, Vegas!!! I can't wait.  With that said, I will write one more post tomorrow and than I cannot promise if I will be writing while I am on vacation.  I promise I will try, if not you will for sure hear from me when I get back.

ok, time for bed, I'm heading to a MK event in the morning, I'm sure it will be exciting and fun.

It more than a job

Today I re-affirmed my reason for being a Mary Kay Beauty Consultant, it is more than a job, it is a passion and I really enjoy doing what I do.  I was doing an interview today along with my director for my good friend, during the interview we talked about the company and what Mary Kay is all about.  As my director conduct the interview and going through all the information that the interviewee should know it dawn on me a clear vision of why I love doing Mary Kay so much.  I discover there's real love and care between each lady and we are really there to help other women succeed in their dreams and find what they want and achieve their goal.  This company is alot more than just skin care and color cosmetic, it's about love and customer service, it's about building a relationship with your client, it's about solving their problems and providing their needs.  As i was telling the interviewee about my two interesting clients yesterday, one of them is internally allergic to chemical and the other who have sensitive dry skin, both of these ladies have been struggling to find the product that works for them.  At the end I have done everything that I can to help them and their compliment to me was "it is so great of you to go above and beyond to help me"  That compliment makes me feel so great because I know when I find the solution they will be so happy.

Beyond helping my customer the company also have a wonderful charitable foundation that help women living with cancer and women living through domestic violence.  It is so great to know that the company also like to give back.  To do my share I have decide to take up my fellow business assoiciate idea to give $1 for every face I pamper from now till May 12 as well as donating 5% of all my sales towards Mary Kay Ash Charitable Foundation (to find out more check out http://www.marykay.ca/vchan2/company/marykayashcharitablefoundation/default.aspx).

It feels so wonderful to work for a company that makes me feel good.

Ordinary day turned out good

My day book wasn't full to begin with and i was going to take today as a leisure day but it turned out to be a busy day for me.  I originally only had one appointment this morning helping a girl out with choosing products that are suitable for her.  She had a very unique issue, she is actually internally allergic to certain chemicals, what is internally allergic you ask?  Well when she use products that have chemical she's allergic to, it affects her organs.  That was a unique problem that I have never dealt with before, so what i ended up doing is to make photocopy of all the ingredients of the products that she is interested in and let her take it home to study.  She was so please with what i did for her that I can tell she feel special.

To make up for yesterday's missed appointment, I booked a replacement appointment today, so I drove to Surrey to visit my new client.  Turns out she had used Mary Kay before when she was in elementary school and she did like it, although she didn't purchase any product from me today but she is interested to sign on as my team member which is even better because I think Mary Kay is such a great opportunity for women so I am glad she wants to join me.

At night time I get to shut off my Mary Kay and get involve with another very important project of mine.  Other than being a Mary Kay Beauty Consultant I am also an Event Planner, and currently my two good friends and I are planning our 3rd Annual fund raiser for BC Cancer Foundation.  The fund raiser will take place in the summer and it's call Wish Upon a Star: An Evening of Hope, we started this event because I am cancer survivor and I want to raise money to give back so more unfortunate patient can get great help.  Thanks to my wonderful friends I am able to turn my dream to reality.  So tonight we have finally decide on our sponsorship package and soon we will be ready to go out and look for sponsors for out event.  As the date draw closer I know the butterflies in my stomach will grow bigger.

Well that sums up my day, it feels so good to have a productive day :)

The New Generation

After the Easter weekend I am all pumped and ready to get back to work, my datebook are filled with bookings this week and i am excited.  First off today I was suppose to be having a facial with a young girl that I met while I was shopping.  She was very excited about learning more on how to take care of her young skin so she can prevent wrinkles in the future and I am so excited to share what I know with her.  But as the facial time approach, I called her to confirm her appointment and she didn't answer my call.  I called 3 times and I finally decide to let it go for now.  Perhaps she got something came up and she couldn't make it to the facial session, it is too bad because I have got something fun planned for her.  I left her a nice message to let her know to contact me to reschedule when she is ready.  Sometimes it is just very difficult to understand why people will make plans with you and not show up.  I will just blame it on the fact that she is still very young and that's the new generation of communication.

Good thing I have been well prepared by my director, she have told me that usually on average when you book 10 facial, only 2-3 of them will successfully hold, many times people have things that are more important come up, more important than facial, so they will re-schedule and occasionally people will just not show up and you will never be able to get a hold of them again.  I learned quickly that it is their lost not mine if they don't show up, it is their lost because they have lost an opportunity to try some great Mary Kay product.  I didn't loose because there will be plenty of faces out there who will want the Mary Kay product, so I moved on.

I used the time that i was suppose to facial her to make phone calls instead and i managed to get more bookings.  And since I did my job and used my time wisely rather than getting upset over a no show, I was able to reward myself with a 2hrs nap so i can be re-charged.

In the evening time, I attended our special consultant only meeting night, directors had shared with us all the great new products and the challenge  for this coming quarter.  It is so exciting to know what we can do to boost our business and also earn some gifts for doing our job.

I have to say I am very happy with my opportunity, I am so glad someone ask.

MK blog day

Today I had some free time to simply typed "mary kay blog" in google search to see what pops up.  I wanted to know how many people out there are writing about their journey on their Mary Kay business but what I found was two very popular blog.  One is the anti-Mary Kay blog - Pink Truth and the other is a counter blog call "Truth About Mary Kay", which post answers and response to posting from Pink Truth.  They are both equally interesting to read but one is very negative and the other is very positive.  I am sure you can take a guess at which one is the positive one, the one that support Mary Kay."Truth about Mary Kay"

I am not saying that the people posting on Pink Truth are lying, I believe those are their true experience but in my opinion I think their fail to succeed in their Mary Kay business cannot be blamed on their director and the company because as we all know, joining Mary Kay is by choice.  Nobody push you to make a decision without thinking about your action thoroughly, therefore, I think their failure are partly induce by them-self.  I didn't read all the negative post on Pink Truth, I think they are too depressing and bitter.  Maybe if those who post on there should find their positive energy again and try something else that they have passion for and do it with dedication.

On the other hand, I enjoyed reading "Truth About Mary Kay" blog because the opinion are much more honest and it's another person's opinion who have a positive Mary Kay experience.  This site basically answers to the negative posting from Pink Truth, the author I gather is a man whos wife is a Marry Kay consultant for some time.  Along with his loyal follower they give their positive opinion about Mary Kay and also keep it very truth.  For the many things I have learned so far as a Mary Kay consultant one thing that I have learned very well for sure is this: Running a Mary Kay business is no different to any other business out there.  It takes HARD WORK, PASSION, DEDICATION and COMMITMENT to succeed.

I found the following Mary Kay wisdom from Truth About Mary Kay, I copied it and post it here to share with my followers and blog readers.  I think they are good wisdom to live by..

Wisdom from Mary Kay
In 1989 Mary Kay shared this New Year's forecast that is still as timely today as it was then.

Why am I blogging?

Have you notice my last couple of posts were not that interesting to read?  Well I can tell you why, it's because I fell asleep half way writing it every time and I had to wake up in the middle of the night to finish it.  You ask why would I do such that?  Why not just finish it the next day or not write the blog at all for a night, nobody is going to miss it.  Well, I wanted to commit to my desire to start a blog this week.  I want to make sure I do what I planned to do because I don't want to fail myself.  I was not always like this, but I remember at the Mary Kay Career Conference I heard something that someone said which have made me realize why I was going nowhere in life before.  This is what I was told at the conference "Hold on to your goal even if you have failed 10 times because the 11th time may be the time you succeed.  Without trying you will never succeed"  The reason I started this blog was to keep a journal for myself so I can look back at my journey to my successful Mary Kay business.  Also I want to be able to show others in the future who want to join Mary Kay Inc that there are no such thing as "easy money" or "easy success", every successful stories is written by a person who dare to dream and hold on to that dream until they succeed.

Writing this blog is also one of my many small goals.  I have always wanted to write a blog but I know my writing skills and grammar is not the best so I am embarrass to write one.  So bare with me and I promise to continue to improve my blog and my English writing skills.

ok, enough about my reason to writing my blog, I want to share about my day.  This morning I met up with my very first team member.  She have signed on a while ago but because of her busy full time work, she really didn't get a chance to attend meetings and learn all that is available for her, so I feel I have the duty to reconnect her to the MK world.  It was a great decision to do that, I have to give myself a pat on the back for reaching out to my team members because when we met up, I open up the opportunity to allow her to join me on my journey also allow her to ask questions & concern she have about her business.  I truly felt the purpose that Mary Kay Ash created this company for "Enriching Woman's live"

Other than that, my day was used up for catching up on paper work >.<

4 Days week is nice

Thank god it's a short week because I really feel like I need a good night sleep where I can sleep for more than 5 hours.  But I have to say, my week was actually very good.  I had appointments everyday, in fact my first facial this week was a really good one.  The lady loved me and the product, when I talked to her the next day, she said she have already been shopping on my website and cannot wait for our next appointment.  Having such a good facial to start off the week just gets me pumped and everything just flow very nicely this week.  I am so thankful for this opportunity because now I really get to enjoy what i do everyday.

One thing that I like alot about being my own boss is that I can do whatever I want throughout the day without having to take time off.  Today I was about to have coffee in the morning with one friend, than lunch with another friend than I worked for a bit to unpack all my new stock and meet up for a quick appointment, finally went out for a birthday dinner for my friend who's birthday was today.  I just think if I were to be working in an office full time, these kind of days will never happen.

Well this pretty much sums up my day.  I think it's time for bed, so I will chat with all of you later :)

My commitment

Ever since I decide to work my Mary Kay business as full time, I have fully committed myself into doing everything the way Mary Kay Ash have taught us.  One of my biggest commitment is to complete my "six most important things" every night before I go to bed and also get up at 7am every morning to call my director for my daily coaching.  I still remember the first day I was suppose to call her, I slept through my alarm and I was an hour late to call her, but now I get up before my alarm goes off.  Sometimes we talk about the same thing every morning (that's because I always have trouble finishing my six most important thing so every morning she hear at least 3 things was from the day before that was unfinished) anyway I think these morning calls are wonderful because it help me stay on track of my target goal.

Very Good Day

I always know that running your own business is not easy, but I believe as long as you find the fun and joy out of what you do than the job will become easier each day.  Today was a good prove to that theory.  This morning I gave facial to a lady that found me through the MK website.  I usually get very nervous meeting with new people because I always worry about not speaking clear enough.  So right before the start of the facial session I let the lady know that I have problem with my speech.  Just like many of us who have a curiosity, she asked me why, so I briefly explained to her about my tongue cancer experience, she was really nice and assure me that my speaking was totally fine.  I found when I tell people ahead of time about my difficulties, they become more patient and acceptance which also help calm my nerves.  I had a wonderful class with her and follow through with my flip chart all the way to the end.  YAY, for the first time I can actually finish my flip chart from the first page to the very last page.  She loved the product and she enjoyed the facial with me so she bought all the product that was demonstrated to her.  I also booked her follow up appointment to show her colour makeover.  It makes me feel so wonderful because I did what I was taught to do and it was not that difficult.  Later on when I called my Director to tell her my wonderful facial she asked me "So what did you do differently this time?" I said "The lady was a new person I met and I did my job."  Reader, this is what I have been told over and over in the past weeks, don't rely on your friends, get out of your comfort zone and do the best you can.  It was exactly what I did and the result was excellent.  Now I know it's not that difficult and I can DO IT.

Introductory Entry

Thanks to my hair dresser I was encouraged to start a blog.  She said she see a great future in me and she think I should document my journey so that other people can see what I need to go through in order to succeed.  What makes me successful right now is I took my first most important step - signing my Mary Kay agreement to be an independent Beauty Consultant.  This is the decision that changed my life and here is how it all begin...

Before becoming a Beauty Consultant I was a Structural Engineer (In Training) working in an office 8hrs a day, sometimes even more than 8hrs and sometimes it includes working weekend too.  As good as the "Engineer" title sounded I wasn't making a lot of money and I was having trouble making ends meet.  One time I was invited to a Mary Kay event to learn new makeup technique, honestly I was pretty bored at that event about 2/3 of the time, the actual makeup part was really really fun but the rest of it was kind of boring, I didn't care how well so and so did with her week.  But somehow I went back the second time for another spa event, the second time i was expose to the business opportunity and I learned that through Mary Kay I can earn extra money to help pay off my heavy loan AND I get to have business training for FREE.  That sold me, so I signed my Beauty Consultant agreement, I wanted extra money to pay off my loan and I wanted the free business training.  Since becoming a Beauty Consultant I learned to love myself more and how to set a goal for myself.  Most of all I was so inspired by many women in this business that I found the motivation in life.  I have been building my business for going on one year, what i love about my career choice is EVERYTHING, I love the fun, the flexibility, the products, the discount, the sharing and most of all I am always surrounded by wonderful women that are positive and have goals just like me.

This is how and why I started my Mary Kay business.  I Love it and I Enjoy every moment of it.
